John's Cove, next to Cape Forchu, is a tiny beach on the way
to the Lighthouse. It has soft, light-brown sand and is well-sheltered
from the wind from the surrounding rocks and trees. Tourists like this
beach because the ferry's path goes quite close to it and you can actually
yell to people on the boat. The beach that is located on the other side
of the road from John's Cove isn't as sheltered and the sand is more rocky
than fine. Winding roads and gently sloping hills make this area great
for biking.A bike ride can take you from the lighthouse to town in approximately
an hour. Or if you head the other way you will find yourself in Pembroke
where there is another sandy, sheltered beach again, only an hour away. |
