I grew up in Lake Doucette, Digby Co. I noticed something very curious on this 1884 map recently. Look at the railway coming into Yarmouth from the north. Between Ohio and Brazil Lake is a place called "Green Cave." ??? http://www.canadiana.org/ECO/PageView/00584/0223?&rot=1&size=4 No place of that name shows up on a modern map, nor on the A. F. Church map of 1871. It seems like it would be somewhere between Brenton and Deerfield, just south of Lake George. The geology map indicates that the bedrock in this area is of the White Rock Formation, which is known to include limestone in some cases, so it is not impossible that there could be a bona fide solution cave in this area. However, apart from this one map, I've never heard anything about a "Green Cave" in that area. If anyone here has any knowledge of "Green Cave," or any ideas on how I could track this down, could you please Email me at deveau@chebucto.ns.ca. Thanks. Terry

It was probably named because their was hay or marsh grass available their.
