Comments: Wonderful site, really brings back memories. I grow up in South Ohio from 1968 to 1977 before moving to Yarmouth and then to Toronto. I spent a lot of time hanging around the old mill bridge with friends I'll never forget. Great place, wouldn't mind moving back some day.

I hope to visit for the very first time around Spring 2004! From all my research on the Internet it looks like a very beautiful place, and I dream of it often... It also seems like a perfect place to have a vacation home, because of its easy access from the USA. If anyone has this kind of experience they could share with me I would greatly appreciate it!

My name is Larry LeBlanc.
My grandparents were born on Surette’s Island. My grandmothers maiden was Mary Louise Surette born in 1894, and my grandfather’s name was John Laurie Moulaison born in 1896. They got married and moved to the States in the early 1020's. Upon arriving here in the United States they first lived in East Boston, then moved to Malden Massachusetts. At some point in the late 1930's they moved to Wakefield, Massachusetts. My grandfather was a carpenter his whole life. He past away on April 3, 1971. My grandmother was a homemaker and she passed away on May 1, 1989. They were the most wonderful two people I have ever met. They often spoke of Surette’s Island in all its beauty. I hope to visit Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia someday and see Surette’s Island through their stories and their remembrance in their eyes.

I understand that Comeau is derived from Cajun which refers to a group of French escapees that settled originally in southern Louisianna. Do you know if there is any info that can confirm this or expand on it. Also, are you aware of any info on the name Napoleon Alexandre Comeau whom I believe is a distant ancestor.

Comments: great site, nice to see pictures of the old buildings.  I think it would do a world of good for the government of yarmouth to attempt to recreate some of these old buildings.  it would bring back a sense of culture and pride, not to mention a likelyhood of increased tourism.

Comments: Don't know where, but my Sanford ancestors came from Nova Scotia. I just don't know how or where to start looking for them. My father was born William Hamilton Sanford III. (Jan.1,1916) Somerville, Massachusetts. The original W.H.S. was married to Annie Donahue (from Ireland). I don't know when they left Nova Scotia.
My father's father (W.H.S, II) was born in Auburndale, Massachusetts, died in California in 1947.
Are there any other Sanford's from Nova Scotia out there?
