Comments: Kathy and I are on a 5-year trip around North America. We are presently in Bar Harbor, ME and had intended to continue north across the border and spend 2-months in the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec and Ontario. We were in British Columbia and Alberta last fall. We had intended to visit all the Provinces.
But, we have changed our plans and will no longer visit Canada. Not as long as you have a Premier who wants to be the clone of that French fool - Jacque Chirac'. Cretien's attitude vis-a-vie the USA's removal of Saddam Hussein in Iraq is appalling and forgets the past cooperation by our two countries (NORAD Etc.) His continued USA bashing is unacceptable and we will not return to Canada until that idiot with his anti-USA attitude is gone.

Comments: I grew up near Yarmouth (Lake Doucette, Digby Co.), but now live near Halifax, NS.

I am doing some research on stones near Yarmouth that have curious inscriptions on them. These are the ones I have heard about:

1. Yarmouth Runic Stone, in museum (lots of info).
2. Bay View Stone (placed in a wall in Bay View Park).
3. Plymouth Stone, found by Percy Wyman, but who has it now?
4. Inscription on a large stone in the Chebogue River.
5. Inscription on a stone at the mouth of the Annis River (formerly called Salmon River).
6. Inscriptions on two large stones on Flick Island (formerly called Lent's Island).
7. Stone Cross on Murder Island (in Tusket Islands).
8. Inscription on a stone on Deep Cove Island (in Tusket Islands).
9. Inscription on a large stone on Green Island (near Cape Sable Island).
10. Up to three stones with inscriptions found on the Seal Islands.

If anyone has any information on any of these stones [except (1)], or if you know of other ones not listed, could you please contact me at deveau@chebucto.ns.ca. I currently have very little information on how to find these stone inscriptions, or even if they still exist. Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

If you have a chance - drive the 15 minutes to Middle West Pubnico and have an authentic Acadian meal (Poutine, Rappie Pie, and the bread pudding with lemon sauce) at the Red Cap Resturant. Unbelievable!

Comments: I recently visited my grandfather's (on my mother's side) ancestral homeland on Surette's Island near Tuskett and Yarmouth, NS for the first time from 26 June - 3 July. My grandfather's name was Ruben Isaac Surette. The occasion of my visit was my parent's (Russell A. and Barbara A. [Surette and Bennett] Duncan) 50th wedding anniversary (Where would I be without them? Thanks for everything Mom and Dad.). 

I was so thrilled to visit the area. I can still see the many picturesque islands; the osprey and kingfisher that fished the area while I also fished the for mackerel and pollack. I met and enjoyed the company of many in the area including relatives that I never had met in my 47 years, and hope to return soon. The people of Surette's Island are a warm and friendly group who made me feel like they had known me for years. Only one thing troubled me during my visit, the original Surette homestead on the island (dating to the early 1800s, which is currently unoccupied and dilapidated, is greatly in need of repair and recognition by some historical society. My recommendation is that it should be restored and made into a historical site/museum and perhaps a bed and breakfast for visitors (i.e. for descendants of families in area and other tourists) to help with maintenance costs) Thank you and hope to see you again soon.
